In chapter 111, Farnese and the Holy Iron Chain Knights finally reach the Misty Valley, guided by Jill’s father, Zepek. They discover the bodies of the creatures Guts has already defeated and quickly realize that the Black Swordsman is responsible. Serpico correctly identifies the enormous sword marks and concludes that Guts fought the creatures alone. Meanwhile, inside the cocoon-filled cave, Guts is overwhelmed by Rosine’s elf creatures. Instead of retreating, he uses the surrounding fire to his advantage and charges directly through the flames, destroying the creatures attached to him. Rosine is shocked by Guts’ terrifying determination and begins to see him as an even greater monster than herself.
