In chapter 120, Azan steps forward and asks the other Holy Iron Chain Knights to stay back so he can face Guts himself. Guts recognizes him as the famous “Bridge Knight,” while Azan insists on following the code of a true knight. Their fight quickly becomes intense, and although Guts manages to avoid most of Azan’s powerful strikes, his injured leg and worsening vision make it increasingly difficult for him to keep fighting. Guts suddenly changes his target and tries to reach Farnese, but Serpico secretly interferes and helps Farnese wound him. Guts finally collapses, and the knights begin celebrating their victory. Azan stops them from attacking the defeated Guts and orders Farnese to withdraw with him as their prisoner.
