In chapter 166, Casca is tied to a pillar while the frightened refugees prepare to burn her, believing she is responsible for the disaster. Guts fights through the mass of spirits to reach her, while Isidro, Jerome and Nina create a risky rescue plan. Isidro swings down from the Tower, frees Casca and pulls her back to safety. Mozgus then tries to recapture Casca, but Guts suddenly appears and strikes him with the Dragon Slayer, ending the chapter on a major cliffhanger.
