In Berserk manga chapter 98, Guts wakes up in the abandoned windmill and finds Jill asleep beside him. He asks Jill about the Misty Valley, and she explains that the creatures living there have been attacking the village, destroying crops, killing livestock, and taking children. Guts realizes that these “elves” are actually pseudo-apostles. Soon, the creatures fly toward the village and begin attacking it. Guts sees them coming and prepares to fight, while a frightened boy named Thomas runs into him. Guts tells Thomas to stay down and then attacks the creatures.
