In chapter 254, Farnese spends some quiet time with her mother, who opens up about Farnese’s childhood and explains why her father always struggled to understand her. She also tells Farnese that, despite everything she went through, she has the potential to become a very kind person. Farnese admits that she agreed to marry Roderick mainly because it would secure a ship for Guts and the others, since she felt she had no real role in their group. Meanwhile, Guts, Isidro, Schierke and Casca wait outside the Vandimion estate, planning to speak with Farnese. Before they can enter, however, Farnese’s carriage leaves the estate with Serpico and several guards.
